Hypocrisy on sea ice

The evidence is now overwhelming that the concentrated impacts of climate change on the polar regions of our planet are causing the Arctic sea ice to melt. It is a frightening scenario.  While countries such as Russia, the US, Canada and China dither over taking measures to address the climate change issue, oil and gas as well as fishery industries are already acting to move in to take advantage of the reduced Arctic sea ice.  The defence establishments in these countries are concerned about the strategic issues that will arise when these new resources become available as a consequence of climate change.  World leaders and our captains of industry seem to clearly be able to see the very limited benefits that arise from climate change but seem unable to exercise the same clarity of vision with respect to the costs.

This monumental folly endangers the future of our planet and all human and non-human life. (1667)
